I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Memphis, where I am advancing my research in Communication Studies. I earned both my B.A. and M.A. in Communication Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My academic journey has been deeply enriched by my interdisciplinary approach, blending Media Studies, Critical Cultural Studies, and African American Rhetoric to examine the complex narratives surrounding Blackness and masculinity in media.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a passion for writing and reading, which complements my work in sports journalism at The Cardinals Nation. My role in sports journalism has provided me with a unique perspective on media representation and narrative construction, enhancing my academic research.
Spending time with my family is a priority, grounding me and providing a personal balance to my professional life. As a Black media scholar, I am particularly interested in how place influences the representations of Black masculinity in media. My research delves into the spatial dimensions of identity formation and cultural expression, exploring how physical and metaphorical spaces shape and contest these representations.
My goal is to contribute to the ongoing discourse on identity, visibility, and the politics of representation in contemporary culture. I am committed to advancing our understanding of the role of media in shaping societal norms and individual experiences, particularly through the lens of Black geographies and masculinities.
